Why Mapleton homeowners work with Avalawn

A one-acre or five-acre horse property changes the math on almost everything.

Irrigation has to cover far more ground without wasting water on pasture that doesn't need it; plant choices have to be safe near horses; and mowing and maintenance scale up in ways a typical suburban yard never does. We plan Mapleton properties as full sites, with the home landscape, the pasture, and everything in between working together.

Mapleton's mature oak and maple canopies add another layer. Established trees create deep shade zones where sun-loving turf and standard bedding plants won't thrive, and heavy mulch piled against the trunk causes more harm than good.

We design planting strategies specifically for those shaded pockets, and we know Mapleton's permit requirements for retaining walls over four feet, so slope work on a larger property gets engineered and approved the first time.

We plan across your full property, from the home landscape to the horse pasture and everything between, instead of treating acreage like an oversized suburban lot.

Retaining walls
Engineered walls built to Mapleton's permit requirements for structures over four feet, common on the sloped acreage near the foothills.
Learn More
Xeriscaping installation
Drought-tolerant plants and drip irrigation for the parts of a large property that don't need the water a pasture or lawn does.
Learn More
Water features
Fountains and ponds scaled to fit a large property without competing with the acreage and views that drew you here in the first place.
Learn More
Landscape cleanups and maintenance
Seasonal cleanups scaled for multi-acre properties, with mulch depth and placement adjusted around mature tree trunks to avoid rot and fungal pressure.
Learn More
Irrigation and sprinkler systems
We zone irrigation separately for pasture, lawn, and beds, so you're not running one system across the acreage with very different water needs.
Learn More
Irrigation repair and maintenance
Repairs and seasonal service across large coverage areas, with zone-by-zone troubleshooting instead of guessing at a single, oversized system.
Learn More
Water conservation
Smart controllers and hydrozoning that separate high-water lawn areas from pasture and drought-tolerant beds, so acreage doesn't mean an oversized water bill.

Took advantage of the winter discount on their filters and it saved us a ton of money on our irrigation revitalization project. We have been wanting to get our sprinklers up and running ever since we moved in but have never been able to fit it in our budget until now. Very fair pricing and a great crew to back it up.

If you have secondary water, you know the battle with your pressure. Luckily Kordell had just the right solution to fix my pressure issue in my back yard zone. They were in and out in a day with nothing left behind except a perfectly working system. Super pleased with the crew over at Avalawn.

Had a major main water leak that we couldn't shut off and we couldn't get a hold of our usual guys. Thankfully, Avalawn was incredibly responsive giving us pricing right over the phone and having a tech out to fix the issue within a few hours.

We did our project in these months to save some money, and even in the freezing weather, the crew showed up with a great attitude. They were able to make our whole yard water wise in just a week. Xeriscaping some areas due to inefficiencies and overhauling the whole sprinkler system. 10/10 times would recommend these guys to take care of any of your irrigation needs.

Davin and Kordell (and crew) are the hardest workers! They turned my 200 foot back fence into a low maintenance beauty. Worked with me when adding/changing stuff. Kordell is very knowledgeable and saved me from having to replace the 9 trees I bought because we have secondary water. Got it done quick. AvaLawn went the extra mile to repair my fountain pump while adding some water lines that the original installer neglected to add. Kordell knew his stuff about fountains too! I would highly recommend!

We had Avalawn do our drip system, removal of a water feature, and install rock in all the boarders and beds. I can’t say enough good things about how well they did! They took a run down yard and made it look amazing! The pictures don’t do it justice. I will be referring them to anyone I know who is shopping for anything yard related. They were prompt and efficient. We have future projects we are saving up for and we will use them again!! Thank you so much Avalawn

We’ve had a persistent issue with our fountain for three summers and two other companies couldn’t figure it out. Kordell came out and pinpointed the issue super fast. He knew his stuff when it came to water features. While he was here he fixed our drip line that we didn’t even know had a leak. I’ve worked with plenty of contractors in my day but it's rare to find one that actually wants to help rather than doing the bare minimum. I highly recommend Avalawn!

I had Avalawn clean our waterfall, empty the reservoir tank and make sure our pump was working properly Eric did a wonderful job cleaning and refreshing the waterfall after years of buildup and yuck. It looks beautiful! He even went so far as to rearrange the rocks so that it sounded much more pleasing. They were easy to work with, and pricing was more than fair. I will definitely use them again.

FAQ

Mapleton landscaping questions, answered

Do I need to worry about certain plants near the horse pasture?

Yes. Some common landscaping plants are toxic to horses, so we choose safe species for areas near pasture fencing or turnout areas and keep decorative plantings separate from where horses actually graze.

Can you irrigate a multi-acre property without running up my water bill?

That's the goal. We zone pasture, lawn, and planting beds separately, so each area gets only the water it needs, rather than a single blanket schedule across the whole property.

Why does nothing grow under my big oak tree?

Deep shade from a mature canopy is tough on sun-loving turf and typical bedding plants. We use shade-tolerant groundcover instead, and keep mulch pulled back from the trunk so it doesn't trap moisture against the bark.

I want a retaining wall on my sloped lot. What does Mapleton require?

Mapleton requires engineering and permitting for retaining walls over four feet, which is common on the sloped acreage near the foothills. We handle the process from start to finish to secure approval and make sure the crew builds the wall correctly the first time.

How is maintaining a multi-acre property different from a normal-size yard?

It’s mostly a matter of scale and zoning. Mowing, cleanup, and irrigation all need to account for more ground, often with very different needs across areas, so we build maintenance plans around your property's actual layout rather than a flat per-yard approach.

Do you handle the sprinkler system, or only the landscaping?

We design and install the full irrigation system, appropriately zoned across the pasture, lawn, and beds. On a property this size, getting the zoning right up front is what keeps water use and maintenance manageable.
